Japan's Leading Breweries Raided in Price-Fixing Investigation
By Rhyter Times Desk · 4h ago
Japanese competition regulators have raided the country's four primary brewing companies over allegations of beverage price-fixing, according to reporting from The Guardian and the BBC. The companies targeted in the probe are Asahi, Kirin, Suntory, and Sapporo, all of which confirmed to the BBC that their offices were searched by the competition authority.
The inquiry centers on suspicions that the beverage giants colluded to establish prices for beer and other drinks, The Guardian reported, noting that the Fair Trade Commission is involved in the action. According to The Guardian, the four firms control over 90 percent of the Japanese beer market, with local media indicating the alleged cooperation could have driven up costs for consumers.
