Thousands Protest Austerity in Brussels as Clashes Break Out with Police
By Rhyter Times Desk · 2h ago
Thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in Brussels to protest government austerity policies, according to reporting from both Fox News and Al Jazeera. The gatherings drew large crowds, but portions of the demonstration were marred by confrontations between police forces and individuals at the scene.
Accounts from both outlets indicate that clashes emerged alongside the wider gathering. Fox News reported that masked individuals fought with riot officers as thousands demonstrated against austerity measures and the broader cost of living crisis in Belgium.
Al Jazeera reported that Belgian law enforcement deployed tear gas, water cannons, and baton charges against people characterized as troublemakers operating on the periphery of the primary demonstration.
